Dear Diary
by Esther Heidner- grade 5
Dear Diary,
I always wished I had a testimony. Well, today my wish came true. You will not believe this!
I had heard about the new law which King Nebuchadnezzar passed recently. I was not allowed to pray to God. The king was a friend of mine. The problem was, God was an even bigger friend. Faithfully, I kept praying three times a day. Then guess what? They found out about it and threw me into a huge dark tunnel which smelled of something gross, and I felt some slime. Slime in a cave? Maybe there was water? It was dark, but I used the smelly dirt to build myself a chair which was just a big pile of dirt, but what else could I do? I sighed and slowly slumped into the pile of dirt chair. Suddenly God spoke to me. “Daniel, I am with you. Daniel, I will not forsake you. Daniel, I love you.” I felt comforted by his words. I had only done two prayers that day, so I started my third one. “God, please help me out of this. I want to stay loyal to you. Amen.” It was short, but right to the point. I sighed. From behind me, a low growl came. I whipped around, only to see a humongous figure on all fours crawling toward me. A dog? The mane gave away his identity. He was a lion! I could not believe it. He growled at me, looked me over, and roared. Several other lions came. They too looked me over, growled, roared, jumped. I whispered another prayer to God, already thinking that it could be my last one. “God, if you want me to live on, save
me.” Suddenly there was another series of roars, then silence. Was I dead? I blinked and opened my eyes. The lions? They were right beside me, cuddled up like a big family. I was lying on top of one. I dared not move. Was I safe? Finally I sat up. One little cub looked at me, then growled a little baby growl, and we started to wrestle. We rolled around in the mud. It was so much fun! As I started to get tired. I crawled toward the pile of lions and slept.
In the morning, I heard a voice. “Daniel, Daniel! Are you alright?” The voice sounded familiar. It was the king!
I yelled out, “Yes!”
“Daniel, your God saved you!”
Thankfully I lowered my head. “Yes he did.” I couldn't keep back the tears. The lions went off, leaving us.
“Daniel, you are free to pray to your God.” the king declared.
That was a miracle, but God can do anything! Now I have my very own testimony.
