It Takes a Village

In the 1996 Hilary Clinton used the phrase in the title of her book :  " It Takes a Village: And Other Lessons Children Teach Us" in which then First Lady Hillary wrote about the expansion of government as a key solution to nurturing our children. I think most of us would disagree with Hillary's answer to our challenges of raising our children. Although I think Hillary's It takes more than just Mom and Dad to raise our childrenideas are a bit misplaced and somewhat myopic I do agree with the concept that it takes more than just Mom and Dad to raise our children.

Re-Enrollment Open for Next Year!

We want to thank everyone for your great support of HCOS in 2009/2010.  It has been a privilege to be part of the team in each child’s educational journey.  HCOS is not a bi-educational system of parents and It is important for you pray about your decision nowteachers but one system working together so that each child can be all that God has planned for them.

We are now wondering if you want to be part of HCOS for the school year 2010/2011.  It is important for you pray about your decision now. We will have to cap our numbers again for next year.  If you re-enroll before April 15 you will be guaranteed a spot with your support teacher.  After April 15 we will start to accept new applications.

Gold Medal Character

Recently, people on the radio were talking about their proudest Olympic moments. Some mentioned the winning of Canada's first gold on home soil, I wish that there were medals given for quality of character because these athletes deserve themsome mentioned the spirit of Joannie Rochette after losing her mother. There were almost as many different responses as there were callers. 

For me there are many, but the three stand out to me and all share a common denominator.

Olympic Readathon Results

The Olympic Read-a-thon was a fabulous success with a total of 157 students completing the three week challenge!  Grade K through 9 read a total of 224,272 minutes or 3,787.87 hours or Grade K through 9 read a total of 224,272 minutes or 3,787.87 hours155.74 days!  Those homes must have been pretty quiet for a while. 

We had prizes for the highest number o f minutes read per grade as well as a random draw for each grade. $20 Amazon E-Card for highest score and $10 Amazon E-card for the  random draw  We also did a random draw for an Ipod Nano!  And the winners are...
